Why do I need a web site for my business?

Within the last few years the popularity of the Internet has boomed, it is now the first place that many people look for information or to buy products and services. With such high numbers of worldwide visitors coupled with the ability to display countless pages of vital information, the question should be "can I afford not to have a web site for my business?".

How much will a web site cost?

Each of our webs sites are unique, and therefore it is difficult to provide a generalised cost. For this reason we visit local clients and discuss their requirements in detail before producing a proposal outlining all costs, requirements and timescales. For clients based further afield we can usually do this over the phone or by email.

How long will a web site take to make?

This is dependent on the size and complexity of a site. Small sites can usually be completed within a week or two, whilst larger sites may take up to two months. We always provide timescales with our free proposals to ensure that clients know exactly what to expect.

Are there any hidden costs?

At Webbed Feet UK we pride ourselves in having no hidden costs. Each of our proposals will detail exactly what you are paying and what it is for. If there are any annual costs they will be clearly indicated before work commences keeping you in control of your business' finances throughout. If you require any updates at a later date we will charge only for the work done, there are no charges for opening an old file.

All of our web sites are designed in close collaboration with our clients. Our customers can be involved with the site design as little or as much as they wish from the start. We do not use templates like many other web designers, and individually design each site to suit our client's needs. You're not my 'local' web site designers. Does this matter?

Not at all, one of the advantages of the Internet is that changes can be made from virtually anywhere in the World. With telephones, faxes, email and the postal services it is possible for us to create a professional and effective web site without ever meeting you. We have not met several of our previous customers in person and have still maintained our high levels of service and customer satisfaction.

I am interested in a web site, what happens next?

In the majority of cases, we will visit our clients and discuss their requirements in detail, this usually takes between 30 minutes and a couple of hours. This enables us to determine what kind of web site needs to be produced, and allows us to answer any queries that our clients may have. Following this we will send out a proposal outlining what is required from our clients, what they can expect from us, timescales, costs and any other relevant details. When our clients decide to proceed, we shall produce some sample designs for them to review. We will then modify these designs based on our client's opinion, and repeat this process until we have a design in which our client is entirely satisfied. This is then turned into a fully operational web site and the content added. Clients are then given several chances to read and review our work and, once all required changes have been made, and the site approved, we can upload to the Internet and make it live. It is then submitted to search engines and, once paid for, clients are given a copy of the entire web site. Please contact us if you would like us to design your web site.

Does Webbed Feet UK make online shops?

Yes, we have produced many online shops for clients in the past. Recently the cost of running an e-commerce site has dropped significantly so that they are now far more practical even for smaller businesses.

In addition to this we have designed our own shopping solution called Webbed Shop reducing the cost of a professionally designed fully functional online shop even further.

Can I take payments on my web site without an online shop?

Of course, in many instances a full online shop with shopping basket is far too complex for our clients. For example, you may only have a handful of products that seldom change, or may want to take donations or payments online.

In these cases Webbed Feet UK can easily add a secure e-commerce facility to your site without turning it into a fully fledged online shop.

What is Webbed Shop?

Webbed Shop is a complete e commerce solution written by the Webbed Feet UK team. A comprehensive shopping cart and product management system is used to create an online shop, which our designers seamlessly integrate into a fully customised web site tailored specifically for our clients.

Will people be able to steal credit card details from my online shop?

All of our online shops use secure encryption to ensure that your customers' credit card details are kept safe while in transit over the Internet.

Database Driven Sites

Do you have a system that allows me to update a web site myself?

Yes, we have a content management system that allows clients to update text and images on their web site easily using a password protected admin panel.

This is often used for regularly changing elements of a web site including special offers, latest news, discussion forums and noticeboards.

Can I password protect parts of my web site?

Parts of a web site can easily be password protected allowing our clients full control of who can view their pages and documents. In addition to this, web sites can be linked to a database so that user accounts are added, meaning different visitors can have access to different documents, or have their downloads tracked for your reference.

Wireless & Mobile Internet

Does Webbed Feet UK produce web sites for mobile phones?

Unlike the majority of web site designers, Webbed Feet UK have experience in creating WAP sites specifically for mobile devices such as mobile phones and PDAs (personal digital assistants). Further details can be found on our wireless and mobile Internet page.

Domain Names & Hosting

Does Webbed Feet UK sell domain names?

Webbed Feet UK does not sell domain names but we can provide domain names (such as www.yourname.co.uk) through a wide range of suppliers. Please contact us for further information.

Can Webbed Feet UK host my web site?

Webbed Feet UK specialise in web site design, and to maintain our high standards have decided not to expand into web hosting. We do however, recommend Internet service providers (ISPs) that best suit our clients' needs, and can set up an account completely on their behalf. We will then assist with any queries or problems regarding your hosting, should they occur.

By doing this we have found that our clients benefit from having a web site produced by specialist web site designers, and their site hosted by a specialist web hosting company, meaning that our clients have the maximum level of service throughout.

Search Engine Optimisation

How do I get my site listed high on search engines?

Unfortunately there is no simple way to make a web site rank highly on search engines. There are, however, thousands of smaller changes that can be made to a web site which each improve a site's position slightly.

By carefully predicting which keywords and phrases potential customers will use to find a client's site, and by optimising a web site for these keywords in a variety of ways, our experts have great success in search engine optimisation.

Training

Can you train me to update my web site myself?

Can you redesign an existing web site?

Yes. In most cases this is actually easier for us to redesign an existing web site and therefore will cost you less than starting from scratch. For a free quotation please contact us.

Can you make changes to my existing web site?

Of course, we will probably need access codes, but will happily work on any web site.

Can you produce web sites for individuals as well as businesses?

Certainly, it makes no difference to us whether you are a business or individual. We will create virtually any web site for our clients. Please contact us for further information.
